Richard Lin got a high score of 111 on his first TOEFL test at the age of 13, and his final score on IELTS was 8.5. At the age of 15, he got an offer in economics from Trinity College, Cambridge University.
The application for Cambridge University is different from that of other universities in the UK.  As far as personal situation is concerned, these parts are mainly involved:

1 About event planning/background improvement

Richard: I like football very much, and previously football activities were also my weekly sports. Later, because of the venue and the number of teammates, I started to participate in basketball activities and played basketball every week. Later, the weekend activities was to read a lot of economic-related books. Reading is not about memorizing the knowledge points of the textbook, but about mastering the perspectives it presents. After a lot of reading, you will master a lot of thinking about analyzing problems and help you learn comprehensive and multi-angle ways for analysis. The habit of reading is also very important for many other subjects. In addition, I participated in many debate competitions and achieved good results. At the same time, I urged myself to achieve A in my academic performance. Later, affected by the epidemic, I did not have many opportunities to participate in debate competitions. This also affected my fluency in English. However, during this period, I improved a lot in writing and expression because I wrote a lot of articles.

2 About application process

Richard: First submit UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Services) and COPA (Cambridge Online Preliminary Application). The deadline for this is around the beginning of October. The next step is to fill out the SAQ (Supplementary Application Questionnaire) supplementary questionnaire, and then take the entrance test around mid-November, and finally thinking skill assessment, which is the assessment of the way of thinking, based on the academic discipline whether required or not.

3 About the interview

Richard: Before the interview, I received an interview invitation; participating in the interview process means that the interviewer will give me an article in advance and give me time to familiarize myself with the content of the article. The difficulty and type of the article are similar to news, and it is not a professional academic article. The interviewer will ask questions based on the content of the article and continue to ask questions based on your answers. What I did was to constantly interpret my answers to prove my answers and understanding. This is a very special point of the Cambridge University interview. This is how I feel.

I had previous experience in the UK. At first I planned to go to the UK to study in junior high school. I also participated in several UK junior high school interviews. However, my parents and I thought that I was too young at the time and were worried that I was living in a foreign environment by myself, so they gave up this decision. As for the weather in the UK, there is not much sunshine there, and I like rainy days because it reminds me that my hometown Nanchang is always hot in summer. I have also been to California, USA, and I really like the sunshine there. California and the United Kingdom have completely different climates.

4 Future Outlook

Richard: My study at Cambridge University may take 4 years, and economics includes a lot of mathematics courses, so I will learn a lot of mathematics. I also hope to be able to travel to the UK next year, but due to the epidemic, travel is severely restricted and requires isolation. Going back to the topic of the university I applied for, I was also admitted to UCLA at the same time. I am also thinking about whether I will go to UCLA. This is a difficult decision.

My parents are always worried about my adaptation abroad, especially during the epidemic. But I think my current physical condition is very healthy, and I will not worry about serious impact inflicted on me, and I also believe that in the new environment I will handle it well. Finally, I hope to enter a new stage, and in this process, my English expression fluency will improve.
